With the World Cup season wrapped up and the off season beckoning we catch up with Rachel Atherton’s Spannermonkey Andy.

Whipper Snapper trail. If you know where it is, you’ll be grinning.

Name – Andy Lund

Company – GT Factory Racing / Atherton Racing

Job Title – Technician

What does your job involve on a daily basis? At a race working with Rachel [Atherton] making the bike go as fast as possible; we did that quite well this year. In between that making sure all the bikes are good to ride, I’m preparing for upcoming events, there is always lots to do at Athy HQ!

Favourite thing about the job? Traveling the world!

Least favourite thing about the job? Setting up the awning on the race truck for the pits.

What bikes do you ride? A GT Force, a Cove Shocker and a Surly Karate Monkey.

A busy day for Andy, building himself a new bike!

What was your first ever job in the bike industry? Part time at Leisure Lakes in Wolverhampton.

What one innovation do you feel has changed mountain biking forever? Carbon Fibre.

If you weren’t in the bike industry, what would you be doing? Either a rocket scientist or being a tree surgeon, that seems like a fun job.

How do you take your tea? No milk, No sugar.

Biscuits or cakes? CAKE

What’s your favourite place to ride? North Wales: all the bits people drive past to go and ride following arrows, and all the trails that I build.

Homegrown goodness in God’s country.

If you could ride anywhere in the world, where would it be, and why? Himalayas. I quite like the idea of being able to ride downhill for two days.

If you could ride with anyone, alive or dead, who would that be? My dad.

Skids or Wheelies? Skids

Sum up your job in 3 words… fun friends bikes travel (That’s Four!)
