Report – Phoenix Enduro: Christchurch Adventure Park

To escape the British winter I headed out to New Zealand for some sun and dusty trails. My time in Christchurch happened to coincide with the Pheonix Enduro at the bike park.
Christchurch Adventure Park (CAP) is still developing after the huge and devastating fires that hit it shortly after first opening  (write up on the park coming soo).  So as I was in town anyway, I headed over to the park to see some of the enduro action and capture a few images.
The event was largely based in the park with the race hub located in the ‘park village’ at the base of the chair lift. The race also included trails in the nearby Victoria Park, which is accessible from the bike park but is a separate entity.
The stages varied hugely in both type of trail and length, flowy jump trails in the open to steep techy trails in the trees. Category winners competed the shorter stages in just over two minutes and the longest one in over seven, which just happened to the the last of the six stages on the day. To help out the riders a little, the last liaison did include being uplift assisted with the chairlift.

There was also the Monster Energy Big Air Competition over the last two hits on Airtearoa, with the winner taking home an electric guitar.
