The Cycle Show – Randoms #2

This stunning Fat Creations GT ridden by Liam Phillips at the Rio Olympics is now up for auction for a very worthy cause.

“Sam Willoughby, one of the greatest ever. A history maker. A guy that has taken BMX to a new level & someone I love racing against. You have no option but to raise your game if you’re hoping to compete against him… You know he’ll be ready!!! The outpouring of support tells you what kind of guy he is. He’s a champion that will fight this head on.

I have set-up an online auction for one of my Custom Rio 2016 @gtbicycles. All the money will go to Sam to help with medical costs. I know I maybe biased, but this bike is an absolute piece of art!!! It’s special and deserves to help a special guy. I ask you to bid generously to help Sam on his road to recovery. Cheers!”

Whilst probably not well known to most in the UK, Simplon have been around for a long time in Germany and Austria and they are now making the decision to try their hand in the UK. Their concept is pretty good – essentially they build bikes to order and by giving you a ridiculous amount of build options you can build a bike to your own perfect spec. But rather than waiting for weeks and weeks to get it, Simplon Guarantee to have your bike delivered to a local store within a few days (typically 5).  Simplon have won a lot of accolades and some press awards and given they are based by Lake Constance they have some pretty spectacular trails to test and build bikes on.

The Rapcon 160 build option pictured is a fully carbon frame and is their enduro bike in their range. It has a neat wheelbase adjuster with removable inserts to allow you the option to accommodate 2.8″ wide tyres, so switching from plus sized tyres to 275’s and back is a straight forward affair should the industry decide to abandon one of the ‘standards’. Simplon are well worth checking out and they certainly pride themselves on typically German efficiency. We really liked what we saw.  www.simplon.comimg_4054-copy  img_4057-copy

This BiciSupport workbench is a beast. We want one in our workshop.

This was a little bit unexpected. On One have developed and built a Downhill Bike. Currently this is the only one but they should be in full production very soon. The S36 will start at £2499.99 and the base line model will be equipped with Rockshox, WTB and SramGX. We’ll hold judgement on this particular colourway.

The Radon Swoop 200 Team is a great looking bike and is really well equipped. Fox RC2, Magura MT7, Sram X01, e*thirteen LG1r Carbon. £3199 currently. Bargain.

Never enough custom, this time with Danny Harts Bell lid.

And of course, Gas to Flat’s Union Jack themed World Champs bike, On display on the Hope Stand.

That’s the problem with owning a car more expensive than your house. People don’t appreciate how difficult it is to transport your bike around. Problem solved.

We couldn’t resist. if you build it, we will come and ride it. The ebike track was actually really good and some real effort had been made to build a track that would give you an idea what ebikes are all about. As a total ebike virgin I was pleasantly surprised. They were indeed fun and they do indeed still get you out of breath (must ride more!). Crank the Bosch motor up to high and it really does go. I’m warming to them. Would I buy one? Let’s not get too carried away but there is definitely a place for them.
