Enduro 23rd Dec
« on: Nov 27, 2012, 23:03 »
Enduro 23rd Dec is ON! The idea has taken shape and we're pleased to be holding our first proper enduro in and around the park!

Ukbikepark will be holding a 4 hour enduro with 3 categories - under 18yrs, over 18yrs and female, top three in each cat get trophies and prizes. Track to be decided will included a wide variety of DH/technical/fun obstacles and lots of mud! This is a non BC sanctioned race with TAG timing, bike wash and limited camping (available on request) cabin serving hot breakfast & lunch and drinks, amble parking. £25 per rider - late payment starts Friday before race cost £30 including signing up on the day. Further details of the track, start times etc will follow...

Is this going to be a timed stages race or an endurance event?

Good question paulh. "A 4 hour Enduro" is rather confusing. Perhaps some better explanation of the format would be helpful.
Ride fast, take chances. Just don't blame me when you fall off.

To keep the race simple (as this is our first enduro) it we be a straight enduro lap race - so do as many laps as you can in 4 hrs. We're still planning the route but will hopefully go down the old uplift track to make it more appealing to the XC riders and up the new uplift route in the park, mixed in with that will put through some of the trails and features of the park. We did this at 2009 BUC's and it worked great - much more intersting than riding round a grass field! Will post up more details of the route and format as we develop it.

Lol have seen how steep the park is? I don't think it will be an easy uphill!

True! I meant 'easy' as in surfaced/all-weather as last time I was on the uplift, the track was pretty muddy and would be a horrific slog!

UKBP's first mini enduro.. UKBP would like to stress this is not your full scale Gravity enduro as run by the legend that is Steve Parr, this is a simple straight forward 2 or 4 hour "mini enduro" on a 3 mile circuit making the most of the grounds we currently have at our disposal. The routes are straight forward, and only defined by your own skill, mental state and current fitness levels and maybe the type of bike you ride..

The route will see you cover a distance of approx 3 miles on its longest leg, ride any of the 3 down hill routes available on the day - Big Grin, Devil Dyke and the tricky Tsubo! for the long slog back to the top you will be tasked with the climb made from a combination of our purpose made "uplift route" and sections of the 52 acre woods not to mention a few thrown in sections where riding your bike will not be an option..

To make the race a goer we need a min of 75 riders just to cover the costs (medics, insurance etc) - so if you wana race please make the effort to sign up on-line before so we have a clear idea of numbers. Remember the race isn't weather dependant so it will go ahead regardless of what the weather man says!

Categories and start times will be broken down as follows -

Male under 18 - 10.00hrs start for both the 2hr and 4hr.
Male over 18 - 10.10hrs start for both the 2hr and 4hr.
Female under 10.20hrs start for both the 2hr and 4hr

The aim is to gain as many points as possible within the time frame, the way we are scoring the event is is by a combination of laps and then points depending on the choice route down.. the more difficult the route the bigger the points.. The clock is just there to count down how much time you have left to ride.

1 complete lap of the course is 5 points
use of "big grin" 5 points
use of Devils Dyke 6 points
use of Tusbo & 4X track 7 points

(Extra points for wearing a santa suit!)

The routes you will use will be gated at the bottom where a marshal will be there to record your board number - it is your responsibility to ensure they record your number so call it out as you go past.....

Its all about having a laugh at the end of the season and seeing how unfit you really are!

Sorry guys we've had to cancel  The medics needed to know by midday today what was going on, so with only 13 sign up's we had to cancel. All those who have paid up will be refunded today. We'll have to try again with a enduro early next year and get the word out well before. This Sunday I'll run the uplift as normal.
