Hip replacement
« on: Jul 04, 2012, 15:49 »
I ride mostly dirt jumps, XC, bit of street. I have a collapsed head of femur in my hip, and need a hip replacement op. to stop bad pain and limping. But then I can't ride even off-road, in case of a crash.
Anyone got any experience of this , or views on it? I have two weeks to decide to have the op, or not..

Heal well, mobilise well.. Go ride!!

Seriously... If its dislocation u are concerned about just play it safe, I'm sure there's many riders out there who ride XC with hip replacements in.

Broken ribs, vertebrae and ego.... not bad for a days riding....

I'm currently recovering from a severly broken pelvis ( smashed into 5 pieces) my surgeon said that once im healed I will be fine to get back out and get riding again. Try and get a few different opinions, my surgeon is a biker himself so understands it a bit better. Many surgeons might just go by the book and say no.
If in doubt
Go flat out!

What hip op are you being offered? How old are you?
I would do your research if you're offered resurfacing, as there's been a large recall on them.

Hip replacements have a useful life, different prosthesis have different lifespans.
