Title: Clips and ACL
Post by: supreme-hp on Aug 19, 2012, 18:28
Hi there,
just wondered if anyone who has had ACL surgery ride clips, or if theyre all flat. I wondered if the twisting motion would be uncomfortable/risky even after 6 months or so rehab.

Thanks

There are shimano cleats available that unclip by pulling up rather than twisting, granted you lose a lot of the benefits with them but I imagine its still more efficient than flats with trainers.

I had mine reconstructed in 2009 and once I'd done my physio went back to doing everything I used to including football, tennis etc. Started using shimano clips for the first time about 1 year after the recon on my XC bike and had no problems at all. If the surgery was done successfully and your physios have discharged you then there shouldn't be any problem with clips but it's all a matter of your confidence levels on the new knee and protecting it a little more.
