What bike?

Im looking to have to have ago at racing this year but i dont have a bike yet.What do you on this forum think is a good bike to start out with without going mental on the price.

was goin to say ancillotti, but then i read the price bit 

id say a second hand 222 or somthing will be perfect you could prob get one for about

What if i went down the new route?is there one that  would be recomended or stay clear of?as there seem some good deals around problem is i dont know whats hot and whats not.

i would say something like a 222 because they are light and not too bulky. Or if you have a bit more money get something along the lines of a v10 if you have around

Well how much do you actually want to spend ?

The classic starter DH bike is the Specialized Big Hit, not great but good enough, strong with a reasonable shock.
The new kid on the starter DH block would have to be the new 24-7 Dark Angle DH, looks good and strong (read steel and heavy) but not many people have them to post opinions based on actual experience.
Both of these options represent good value for money.

Bighit(lots of well speced models this year with 26" rear wheel)

Norco
Transition-custom route

these are all new options

but 2nd hand you do have a wider market

And then i brought his patriot and it was brilliant!!!
 A bighit would be good, but if your just starting out then i would say get something with a bit less travel say a patriot for example. Or summit along those lines then inn a year or 2 go on for a full 8 inch travel rig. Thats what i did.

get a kona stinky deluxes  they are good to start off on and at a good price  second hand ....
