New Orange Prototype
« on: Feb 24, 2011, 14:59 »

The bike that Joe Barnes rode to 6th in elite (15th overall) in the Simply Downhill round #1 this weekend seems a little special.

Initial impression was a 5 with 40s on the front. Closer inspection reveals:

ribs on the rear dropouts a la 224evo
internally gusseted downtube/top tube?
gusset on seat tube like the strange alpine 160
bb is too low to just be jacked up
apparently it had quite a short stroke
rp23 with boost valve
Looks like a tapered headtube, so potentially canecreek angleset?

Are they doing what millyard did? 4/5" of good suspension on the back and you won't miss the extra couple of inches?

Why aren't they using the alpine 160/blood chasis?

Is this the "fabled" UK dh bike?

Discuss...

I'm not. Old patriots were often fitted with DC forks and used as little mini DH bikes.

Testing headtube strength ;)
Ride fast, take chances. Just don't blame me when you fall off.

Why would there be cable routing on the top tube???

It is on both sides, one for full length outers and one with stoppers. If it is a patriot then a hammerschmidt option would make sense, aswell as routing for a dropper post.

I think the key to that is in the tittle, prototype.

Get the geo, strength etc right before those little finishing touches.
Change is good! Ride It Out.

180mm travel with an air shock, if it's nice and light it might be perfect for someone of my stature... ;)

I guess this is the kind of bike the vivid air was designed for. I like it alot. Also surprised they're not using the swing link, its appeared on the last few prototypes.

swing links have been binned - expect 225s with normal single pivots...
